Commissioner Daniel F. Martuscello III

Daniel F. Martuscello III was appointed as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision on May 23, 2024. Commissioner Martuscello began his career with the then New York State Department of Correctional Services in May 1997, as a Correction Officer. He transitioned from security to administrative services in 2001, where he held a variety of titles within the Bureau of Personnel, including Director of Human Resources.

In August 2012, Commissioner Martuscello was appointed Deputy Commissioner for Administrative Services, where he oversaw the agency's $3.2 billion budget, and in November 2017, was appointed Executive Deputy Commissioner for the Agency. In this capacity, he coordinated the activities of and provided general direction to the entire Executive Team, and served as the Commissioner’s principal advisor, with an emphasis on labor relations, intergovernmental matters, facility operations and community issues. He assumed operational oversight of the agency as Acting Commissioner on June 9, 2023.

Commissioner Martuscello holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, with a concentration in Criminology from SUNY Cortland. He is a member of the New York State Minorities in Criminal Justice, the New York Corrections and Youth Services Association and the Board of Directors for the SUNY Cortland Alumni Association.
